50 Head

That night seemed darker than any moonless night I ever saw
It was snowing real hard, you couldn't even see the edges of the road
But we had to keep moving and the diesel started jelling
There was someone in the trailer. I could swear I heard 'em yelling
50 head of cattle bad fuel and a long long road

we picked 'em up in Lincoln, had to haul them up to Thief River Falls
we were quiet as a mouse I swear, no one heard anything at all
when we crossed the state line I got a chill up my spine
cattle started kicking and the trailer started swaying
50 head of cattle bad fuel and a long long road

I could hardly wait; I was thinking how it'd all pay off
No one was around, the troopers shut down the road
Then I hit the black ice and we started to slide
When I finally came to most of the cattle were gone
50 head of cattle, bad fuel and a long long road

The rig was buried in snow, that's when it all started sinking in
It started feeling real cold, till you finally couldn't feel a thing
Then you start to get sleepy and it's hard to take a breat
It felt like we were gonna freeze to death
For 50 head of cattle, bad fuel, and a long long road
